Dear Family Members,

Congratulations! Your student is going to be graduating from Independence High School this year. The graduation ceremony will be held at Independence High School auditorium on May 25th at 7:00 pm. This represents a great deal of effort and accomplishment and you should be proud of your student, as we at Independence are. You and your family are invited to attend and watch your graduate receive their diploma.

As this is a significant event in the lives of all our graduates, we ask you to observe appropriate etiquette for the occasion. Please be on time; you should plan to be in your seats by 6:50 pm. Talking or texting during the ceremony is disruptive and makes it hard for the families of other graduates to enjoy the ceremony. If you bring small children, you should be prepared to control them during the ceremony and escort them out of the auditorium if they become disruptive. You will be invited to cheer for the graduates at an appropriate time; “shout-outs” or yelling during the presentation of graduates’ names disrupt the ceremony and make the ceremony longer. Showing respect for all the graduates shows respect for your graduate. Please be considerate of others and let them know you appreciate all the hard work they’ve done by helping make this ceremony a special occasion. Your behavior during the ceremony will determine how the graduates remember their day.
