Course Description/Overview/Welcome Statement
Welcome to your advisory class. This class will mainly focus on school values and commitments, credit recovery, homework time, self reflections, and reading.
Advisory is a class where we spend 23 minutes each day (Mon-Thurs) checking grades, learning life skills, going over graduation progress, etc.
Assessment of Progress
We follow the Socratic Method of discussion and interaction in class. This consists of 5 major premises:
- Admit Ignorance
- Never Rely on Tradition
- Continuously Question
- Formulate your own opinions
- Test your opinions with others

Class Grading and Attendance
You are expected to be in class on time every day. Each day in class you will pick up a daily rubric grading sheet. You will grade yourself from 1 to 10 points based on your participation in that day’s presentations:
“A” 9 or 10 points: I was on task, not tardy
Totally engaged (working on project). I also
Fully participated in discussions/videos. I
Wasn’t on my phone at all during class.
“B” 8 points: I was on task most of time or
All the time but was tardy. I checked my
Phone for messages. I participated in the
Video and discussion.
“C” 7 points: I was on task some of the
Time, but was on my phone for several
Minutes. I listened to discussion/video but
Didn’t really pay too much attention.
“D” 6 points: I was on task a little bit but
Was more interested in my phone or
Talking to my neighbor. Didn’t pay
Attention to discussion/video/presentation.
“F” 1-5 points: I wasn’t paying attention,
Sleeping and not engage
