Independence High School

Here at Independence High School we have an after school Cooking Class on Wednesdays.  This week the students continued their 3 week segment on learning to make “something out of nothing”.  A lot of times you come home from school or work and you are hungry and tired.  You look in the fridge and cupboards and it seems like there is nothing.  Today we looked in the pantry and there was a box of penne pasta, but no spaghetti or alfredo sauce.  But the students learned how to create a sauce with whatever else they could find in the pantry and tried to turn it into a tasty dinner.  They found some veggies and diced up onions and carrots. They found some cream of chicken soup and they found some canned tuna. In the fridge they found some cheese and grated that into the mix. After cooking the pasta and combining the other ingredients to make the sauce, they had a delicious dinner.  Two dozen students and adults gave the creation a taste test and were surprised that the chicken was really tuna. Many of the students gave it a 10 out of 10.
