This year, Independence high school’s computer science principles class have been working on 3 dimensions.  After learning how to use computer-aided design software, students were given an assignment to create a small structure capable of supporting weight.

The conditions

·      Any type of platform

·      4 to 6 support pillars to hold up the platform

·      Any bracing supports between the columns

·      One adult finger needed to fit under the platform

Every student structure supported more weight than predicted causing several teachers to bring objects of different weight.  Amazingly, after making their support structures from simple plastic filament, the structures supporting the most weight supported over 500 pounds!!
