Independence High School

Independence High School Biology and Earth Science Classes had the opportunity to be visited by Hawkwatch International yesterday. The mission of HawkWatch International is to conserve our environment through education, long-term monitoring, and scientific research on raptors as indicators of ecosystem health. Currently Hawkwatch has 10 raptors in their program.

Our students had the chance to meet Kotori the great horned owl. Kotori was taken to a wildlife rehabilitation center when he was just a small nestling. Since then he has imprinted on humans and doesn’t know how to survive in the wild.

It was an amazing opportunity for our students to be so close to such a majestic creature. We love having Hawkwatch come to our school each year. Our students always learn so much when they come!
