Independence High School

Friday September 13th, our students demonstrated strength and courage as they crossed the Provo River hanging from a rope.

The annual river crossing activity involves the Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) members, who are instructed to cross a 60 foot expanse of the Provo River using a rope, a carabineer clip and their own strength.

Classmates and teachers cheered their peers on as each one pulled themselves across the expanse. This event is just one of many that helps our JROTC students learn good leadership and communication skills. The JROTC program implemented at our school instills Army values in our students such as loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage. Although some students were nervous about crossing the river at first, they quickly overcame their fear through the support of their teachers and peers.

Congratulations to these students for successfully crossing the river and for ultimately showcasing a great amount of courage and perseverance.
