Grant Bangerter, one of our math teachers at IHS, has a fun math challenge for his students every 6 weeks. This time it was delicious.

The students were given a dutch oven recipe for peach cobbler. The recipe called for a dutch oven that was 12 inches in diameter. The students then had to create the recipe for an 8 inch dutch oven. They correctly compared the ratios of their 12 inch radius to the 8 inch radius to come up with their new recipe. They had to convert all of the ingredients using their new ratio.They had to show Mr. Bangerter that they could correctly scale up and down the recipe to make the cobbler.

One could tell their new recipe was a success because all the cobbler was gone in seconds and most everyone wanted more!
