Dear Independence High School family,
Last year was exciting as my first year as Principal of Independence High. We put many things into place which we felt helped students succeed. We are very excited about the upcoming school year as we continue to strive to improve in even more ways. I appreciate all of the amazing students we have here. Everyone contributes their own uniqueness to our IHS family and it makes the days exciting and fulfilling.
I am excited to come to work each day, and I know our teachers and staff are as well. At the end of the last school year a number of teachers and staff shared they were kind of sad the year was over because they love being here with our students. I had never heard of school employees saying such things before! We greatly appreciate the attitude and commitment of our teachers and staff to our students.
We pledge to provide support to student in many ways in the coming year. We will continue our after-school programs and after-school tutoring and will do our best to provide a bus so everyone who needs to can stay for enrichment and assistance. (We are only able to provide a bus if enough students are riding the bus home at 4:30) Teachers remain on campus after school to provide answers and tutoring and we hope students take advantage of all of the extra help.
Our after-school program includes fishing, music, sports, cooking, and so many other opportunites. Last year’s sports program was robust and a large percentage of students participated. We won championships and added a girl’s soccer team. We hope to have even more growth and support for all of our after-school activities this year.
Parents, please make sure to stay in contact with us so we can work together to support your student’s progress towards graduation. Powerschool is an excellent tool to use on a regular basis so you can see how your student is doing in every class. If you aren’t sure how to use powerschool please ask and we will show you! A great plan is to look at powerschool with your child at least once each week so you can discuss areas of concern with them while together looking at their progress.
This year we will implement a homework policy which will help your students stay current with their schoolwork and grades. We will explain the policy in detail at registration and hope you will be supportive of our efforts in this area.
We look forward to an amazing year!
